My Top 10 Favorite Photos of Remy: A Year of Capturing My Best Boy

If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you’ve probably met my favorite model, my 3-year-old Australian Shepherd boy, Remy. Not only is he the best dog I could ever ask for, but he’s also my most consistent muse. His energy, personality, and striking features make every photo an adventure.

I’ve taken thousands of photos of Remy, but today, I want to share my absolute favorites. These ten photos capture his athleticism, his quirks, and his sweet soul—basically everything that makes Remy Remy. Each image holds a special memory, and I can’t wait to take you behind the lens and into our life together.

1. The Big Jump

This photo is everything I love about Remy in a single frame: athletic, focused, and absolutely stunning. He’s mid-air, every muscle engaged, leaping with ease and grace. This is where Remy truly shines—doing what he loves most.

The moment was perfect, and I was so proud to have captured it in razor-sharp focus. The lighting, the background, and his form all aligned to create one of the coolest photos I’ve ever taken. Every time I look at it, I feel a rush of pride, not just in him but also in my ability to capture him so perfectly in his element.

2. Playing at the Lake

If there’s one thing Remy loves as much as running, it’s water. On this day, we spent hours at the lake, where he chased sticks, splashed through the waves, and ran until he was completely exhausted. I’ll never forget how tired he was afterward—easily the most wiped out I’ve ever seen him.

This photo captures him mid-leap, completely in his element. His front paws are fully locked and engaged, crashing through the water with incredible force and focus. Water droplets sparkle in the sunlight, frozen mid-air, as his fur glistens in motion. He looks so determined, like this is his full-time job, and he’s giving it his all.

It’s one of those moments that feels larger than life—a glimpse of pure joy, hard work, and unbridled energy. It’s a memory I’ll always treasure, reminding me of how much heart Remy pours into even the simplest joys, like chasing a stick.

3. Bath Time Drama

This one cracks me up every time I see it. Remy had been rolling around in the mud all afternoon (his favorite activity), and I had no choice but to give him a bath. While he was a good boy and stood perfectly still, his eyes were pleading: “Mom, please save me. I’m being as good as possible—please let me go.”

What makes this photo extra special is how much it highlights Remy’s unique eyes. On his left eye, you can see his heterochromia—it’s half green and half blue. His right eye has coloboma, which gives it such a distinctive look. I love getting to capture these features that make him one-of-a-kind.

It’s the perfect mix of drama and sweetness, with his waterlogged ears drooping and his face saying, “How still do I gotta stand before you let me go, Mom?” (Sorry, stinky boy, but you had to keep standing a while longer.) This photo will always remind me of his over-the-top expressions and how much personality he brings to even bath time.

His expression says, “How much longer, Mom?” capturing his personality—dramatic, sweet, and uniquely him—even during bath time.

4. Running Through the Mountains

This day was magical. We were out in the mountains, and Remy was in his element, off-leash and free to explore wherever his heart desired. No matter where he wandered, he always came back to me, frisbee in mouth, tail wagging.

The vibrant colors of this photo—rich greens, golden highlights, and deep, dreamy shadows—are breathtaking, but what I love most is how happy and carefree Remy looks. Both his front paws are frozen mid-stride, emphasizing how fast he was running back to meet me.

Even though he had the whole world to explore, he chose to return to me every time. His calm yet happy expression reminds me why these adventures mean everything to us.

Remy deserves all the freedom and joy in the world, and I feel so lucky to give him moments like these. This photo freezes a perfect second in time, a memory of happiness I’ll treasure forever.

Even with freedom to roam, he always comes back to me, his happy, carefree spirit perfectly captured in this magical moment.

5. The backyard Snorkeler

This photo of Remy cracks me up every time I see it. It was taken on one of those scorching summer days when I set up a kiddie pool on our back porch to help him cool off. At first, Remy thought it was a giant bowl of water (and honestly, it’s about the size of one), so he ran over and started drinking from it. I tried to coax him in by saying, “Get in!” but instead, he bolted in the opposite direction. Classic Remy.

Eventually, I grabbed his frisbee and tossed it into the pool, and that got his attention. He raced over, leaped in, and stuck his entire face underwater like a little snorkeler to retrieve it. The best part? That started his backyard zoomies—he ran laps for a solid 15 minutes, jumping into the pool on every pass.

This photo was taken right after the zoomies, and you can just tell he’s feeling so happy and content, standing in the water, panting, and grinning like only Remy can. Moments like this are why I always keep my camera ready.

6. Golden Hour in the Mountains

This is one of those “stop and stare” photos for me. The golden light was streaming through the trees and creating a halo effect on my angel boy. Remy was sitting so perfectly, wearing his favorite bandana, and looking at me with those attentive, listening eyes that seem to say, “What’s next, Mom?”

His bandana isn’t just for style—though he does look incredibly dapper in it. It’s there to help keep his neck fluff clean when he inevitably rolls in the dirt or dives headfirst into an adventure. In this moment, though, he was the picture of calm, sitting and staring at me with his ears perked, panting gently like the good boy he is.

The glowing forest backdrop, vibrant colors, and warm golden hour light made this shot an instant favorite. It perfectly captures how breathtaking golden hour can be, especially when you have the perfect subject. Every time I look at this photo, I’m reminded of how special these little moments are, just me and Remy soaking in the beauty of the world together.

7. Frisbee Fail: A Rare Moment

This photo perfectly sums up Remy’s goofball energy. It’s one of the rare times my ultra-athletic boy completely missed catching a frisbee, and I had my camera ready at just the right moment. His face looks so hilariously goofy—his eyes are locked onto the frisbee, but his body is nowhere near catching it.

What really makes this shot is the little details. There’s a line of drool flying from his mouth, and you can almost see the “OH MY GOSH” panic in his expression. He looks so determined, even in the middle of an epic miss. Of course, he landed gracefully (as always) and grabbed the frisbee like it was no big deal.

I love that this photo reminds me that even on his whackiest days, Remy’s all heart—and a whole lot of humor.

Remy mid-air, hilariously missing a frisbee. His eyes are laser-focused, but his body is completely off target. A drool line adds to the comedic effect, and his determined expression screams “OH MY GOSH!” This funny, action-packed shot captures Remy’s goofball charm and endless energy, even during an epic fail.

8. Halloween Chaos

This year, I dressed Remy up as a ghost for Halloween, cutting a sheet to fit over him. He looked so stinkin’ cute, even if he didn’t totally understand what was going on. He sat there with just his eyes and snoot peeking through the holes, panting softly, looking confused yet determined to be a good boy for me.

The photoshoot was pure chaos but in the best way, where I kept saying, “Wait… wait… wait!” while he squirmed and shook with excitement. He listened just long enough for me to get the perfect shot before he bolted, and we repeated the process over and over. His goofy, adorable expression combined with the serene golden wheat field background made this photo both hilarious and unexpectedly beautiful.

This shot is one of my favorite memories—equal parts silly and heartwarming. It perfectly captures Remy’s playful spirit and willingness to humor me, even if it means being dressed as a ghost for a day.

It was chaotic, but it’s one of my favorite memories of him.

9. Playing in the Leaves

This photo is peak autumn vibes. I made a leaf pile to clean my yard of leaves, but of course, Remy had other plans. Remy was rolling around, digging through the leaves, and barking at them like they were alive. My perfectly stacked pile quickly disintegrated into a mess of scattered leaves. (Thanks Remy)

But then, Remy settled down, laying right back in the center of the chaos. I couldn’t believe my luck when he gave me this perfect shot—looking absolutely gorgeous, calm after all the craziness. The golden light streaming through the trees made his fur look so soft and warm, and his calm expression was the cherry on top.

Remy is the perfect mix of calm and chaos, but this photo only shows the calm and the beautiful. I love having photos that show off no craziness, just his beauty and serenity. I feel like 99% of the time he’s full of energy and chaos, so it’s a rare treat to capture a moment that highlights his peaceful side. It’s a reminder of the gentle, calm nature that exists beneath all the goofiness, and it makes this portrait even more special to me. These are the moments I treasure most.

10. Remy’s First Snow of the Season

This photo captures a quiet, peaceful moment of Remy as the first snow of the season begins to fall around him. The ground is still bare, but the air is filled with soft, drifting snowflakes. His toys are scattered all around him, and though he’s likely waiting for me to throw a frisbee, the true magic of the moment is in his stillness. With his eyes gently closed and his head tilted towards the sky, it reminds me of when I was a kid, feeling the snow hit my face and watching the world change with the seasons.

Remy is sitting in serene contentment, taking in the first snowflakes of the year. His soft fur and calm demeanor make this photo one of my favorites. Watching him experience something new, like snow for the first time, brings me so much joy. Now, he’s obsessed with it, but this moment will always be a reminder of his pure, peaceful and trusting reaction to the world around him.

Why These Photos Mean so Much

Each of these photos tells a story—not just about Remy but about our life together. From the wild adventures to the quiet moments, he’s been my constant companion and inspiration.

These photos mean so much to me because they capture more than just moments—they preserve the essence of who Remy is. Each shot tells a story of his personality, his quirks, and the deep connection we share. Whether he’s full of energy or sitting calmly in the snow, every image reflects his uniqueness and the bond we have. Photography has allowed me to freeze time and treasure the little things—like his joyful zoomies, his sweet expressions, and those quiet moments of serenity. These images aren’t just pictures; they’re memories I’ll hold onto forever. I’m so grateful to be able to capture the beauty in his every move.

I hope these photos bring a smile to your face and remind you of the beauty in the small, everyday moments with the ones we love. 💛
